In the year 2018, Sabah and Sarawak were the highest recipients of the federal government grant of RM 1.14 billion and RM 1.3 billion respectively. For the year 2020, Sabah and Sarawak remained the state that received the highest development expenditure with a total allocation of RM 5.2 billion and RM 4.4 billion respectively.
