KOTA BHARU (May 12): The Local Government Development Ministry aims to build 500 units of Rumah Mesra Rakyat (RMR) in Kelantan this year, said its secretary-general, Datuk M Noor Azman Taib (pictured).

He said the construction would involve RM10 million in subsidies from the federal government.

“We have received a total of 13,719 applications from Kelantan since this programme was introduced in 2002 following the construction of 9,260 RMR units in the state involving a subsidy allocation of RM185 million.

“From January to April 2023, a total of 740 applications were received, 662 of which were put on a waiting list. Following this encouraging response, we will build another 500 RMR units in Kelantan,” he said at the Kelantan-level RMR Programme Key Handover Ceremony here on Friday.

M Noor Azman said Kelantan has the highest number of RMR units constructed in Malaysia compared with other states.

He said KPKT greatly appreciates the RMR recipients in Kelantan who have a good track record of loan payments to Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB).

According to him, the good track record has helped SPNB raise the initial round of capital for the construction of other RMRs and has indirectly contributed to the construction of more RMRs across the country.

Meanwhile, he said that there are 526 contractors who are active in Kelantan, and a total of 5,286 contractors have been registered with SPNB to carry out RMR construction projects nationwide.
