KUALA LUMPUR: Fifty-two families in Taman Sri Gombak are worried about soil erosion on a hillslope taking place only about 30 metres away from their housing area.

A resident, Yusri Kamaruddin, 40, said the soil erosion occurred little by little since the end of 2009.

"Howewer, at about 7 tonight (Wednesday), the erosion worsened and could also affect the TNB sub-station located near the houses on higher ground.

"Since a month ago if there's heavy rain we would hear sounds like landslips occurring in the area," he told reporters.

He said if the soil erosion worsened and the electricity sub-station gave way, it could endanger the occupants of about 20 houses in Kampung Sungai Cincin at the foothill.

Seven members of the Civil Defence Department and police were at the scene to monitor the situation. — Bernama
