KUALA LUMPUR: AEON Co (M) Bhd plans to expand its outlets to 100 by 2020 from the current 27 with more supermarkets and discount stores.

"This year, we will open a new community shopping centre in Rawang, Selangor and plan to open a second shopping centre in Ipoh next year, with both having a total investment of RM300 million," said its outgoing managing director Nagahisa Oyama.

He told reporters this after the AEON annual general meeting (AGM) here on Thursday, May 26.

AEON Co Ltd is also looking to open a headquarters in Malaysia to strengthen its presence in Asia, in line with its expansion plan which includes, starting a business in Vietnam by 2013 and in Indonesia as well as Cambodia by 2014.

Oyama said other than Malaysia, the company is also planning to open another headquarters in Beijing, China, and hopes to be among the top three players in the retailing business in Asia by 2020 with total sales of RM45 billion by then.

He however, did not indicate, when construction of the headquarters will commence.

Meanwhile, Nur Qamarina Chew was appointed the new managing director of AEON Co (M) Bhd at the AGM, replacing Oyama who has been named the vice president and chief executive officer Asean business. — Bernama
