KOTA BAHARU: Bandar Tasek Raja, a new commercial centre being developed in the Pasir Mas district near here, has been touted to reactivate the district and bring back its business and commercial potential.

The township development project valued at RM151 million is a public-private joint venture between the Kelantan state government and Eastern Biscuit Factory Sdn Bhd.

EFB and another company, EBF Land Sdn Bhd, are subsidiary companies of Furqan Business Organisation Bhd (FBO Bhd).

Managing director of EBF, Datuk Tan Kok Hwa said work on the prestigious development project started few months back on a 12.4 hectare site while
completion was expected in three years time.

"The Bandar Tasek Raja development project occupies a strategic location some two kilometres away from Pasir Mas town, which is 20 km from Rantau Panjang and only 19 km from Kota Baharu," he told reporters here.

The project will see the development of 266 units of modern shoplots with unique designs ranging from one-floor to three-floor buildings, a market, and a bus and taxi terminal.

The project's estimated gross development value is more than RM150 million.

Tan said the project would offer a unique edge and is expected to help bring back the glorious days of Pasir Mas, which was the second largest town in Kelantan until the 1990s.

"We are confident of restoring Pasir Mas as the new commercial centre in the state, which is now busy with economic and business activities.

"With the development of new infrastructures, access via roads and train to and from Bandar Tasek Raja to major areas like Tumpat in the north, Tanah Merah in south, Kota Baharu to the east and Sungai Golok in the west has become much easier and convenient," he said.

Tan said the old markets in Pasir Mas will be also relocated to the upcoming commercial centre together with the bus and taxi terminal.

The Syariah Court office in Pasir Mas will be also relocated to an area only few hundred metres away from Bandar Tasek Raja.

He said the township also stood to offer opportunities to various enterprises, businesses and companies seeking to expand their operations in a creative way including the bird nest business, while helping Kelantan to grow its economy.

FBO Bhd, which is listed on Bursa Malaysia is the owner of the Renaissance Kota Baharu Hotel, the sole five-star hotel in Kelantan while EBF, a leading developer, also owns the Kota Sri Mutiara shopping complex in Kota Baharu and the successfully completed 159-unit Mutiara Condominium. —  Bernama
