Bidding opens for retail spaces along MRT Sg Buloh-Kajang line

KUALA LUMPUR (March 18): Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) is inviting bidders to submit business proposals and bids for 41 retail units at 21 elevated stations along the MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang Line.
 
The period for submission begins today and ends on April 18, 2016, according to MRT Corp in a statement today. MRT Corp Director of Commercial and Land Management, Datuk Haris Fadzilah Hassan, said he hopes to award the spaces to successful tenants by end June.
 
Haris said the current exercise was for the first batch of retail spaces for the MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang Line. “We will certainly open up more retail spaces to let in the near future,” he said.
 
Haris said MRT Corp is looking for retailers with exciting business ideas and services suitable for commuters with fast-paced mobility and urban lifestyles. At the same time, the business should be sustainable and competitive.
 
“Small and local businesses are encouraged to apply. I urge Bumiputera retailers to take this excellent opportunity, as we have allocated a minimum of 30% of the units for Bumiputera participation,” he said.
 
He said MRT Corp would be selecting the best evaluated proposal, and reserves the right not to accept the highest bidder.

“MRT Corp decided to adopt the model where business proposals and bids had to be submitted to ensure greatest transparency in the process. At the same time, the process will also ensure MRT Corp gets the best businesses and returns for lettable retail space, which is an important non-fare revenue resource,” he added.

An applicant has to submit an online application form, which is available on MRT Corp’s website in the retail section at its official website. At the same time, hardcopies of relevant information and documents must also be submitted.
 
The hardcopy printout of the duly-filled and submitted online form, together with hardcopies of relevant information and documents, must be submitted to MRT Corp, Procurement Department, on April 18, 2016, between 9am-12pm. – theedgemarkets.com
