KUALA LUMPUR: Resort developer Funtasy Island Development Group has embarked on a tourism project called Funtasy Island located on a group of islands in Indonesia, 16km from Sentosa Island, Singapore.

Funtasy Island covers an area of 3.28 million sq m and made up of six tropical islands. Plans include what is touted to be the world's largest eco theme park. The Eco Park will offer nature trails, aqua-cultural and underwater activities.

The developer has offices in China, Hong Kong, Indonesia and Malaysia. The Group has developed projects, including the Bali Resort City, the XSport Senayan, the Pluit Mega Mal (in Jakarta), the IBN Tower (Batam) and the Novus Gawana Resort (Bali).

Funtasy Island will also offer "resort homes" aimed at travelers to Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and other parts of the region. Plans are for 108 units of Aqua Villas. The Aqua Villas will be the first phase of the project which is expected to be completed by 2013.

During the announcement of the project in Hong Kong. Funtasy Island founder and creator Michael Yong said each Aqua Villa features a clean and clear underwater garden, teeming with sea-life.

"We are assured of a steady clientele as investors, property owners and tourists have already expressed interest in our project.

"Furthermore, due to our proximity to Asean nations (namely Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore), this project will be advantageous to stakeholders and the public in terms of logistical supplies, human resource support and other potential opportunities. With this ideal location, it also creates greater prospects for business activities for Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong and other cities in Asia," said Yong

Besides the eco theme park, other facilities include the "FIDO DIDO" water sports club, an aquatic breeding zone, restaurants, retail outlets, cafes, and many more attractions. There is also the Island of "Funtasy Entertainment City", which includes a mega cinema with tropical views," added Yong.

This project is supported and managed by a group of consultants including Davis Langdon & Seah Project Management Group, Singapore-based Kay Ngee Tan Architects.
