KUALA LUMPUR: The performance rating for 10 local authorities has been raised through regrading under the star-rating system for local authorities (SSR-PBT), after obtaining one more star or more.

The Kuala Terengganu City Council showed much improvement by obtaining four- star rating from two-star previously.

A statement from the Housing and Local Government Ministry's corporate communications unit Dec 28 said the regrading exercise showed that all the local authorities involved had given their commitment to raise performance.

The SSR-PBT grading is implemented to evaluate the level of performance of the local authorities and to further improve the operations of the high-performing ones so that their services are always efficient and effective.

The grading system uses 352 indicators under four major areas, namely management, core services, managing customers, and community participation and residents' views.

The ministry, through its Inspectorate Division, had made visits to the 10 local authorities involved from Nov 3 to 11 for the regrading exercise.-- Bernama
