S P Setia Foundation

SHAH ALAM (Oct 26): S P Setia Bhd raised RM8.62 million during its annual Foundation Charity Dinner held at Setia City Convention Centre in Setia Alam on Oct 24.

“We are truly thankful for the generous contributions from all valued donors, which will allow us to lend a helping hand to more Malaysians in need, touching the hearts of many who are underprivileged, especially in the field of education,” said S P Setia Foundation chairman Tan Sri Dr Wan Mohd Zahid during the event.

Having raised approximately RM71.4 million since the foundation’s inception, the charity dinners are held to raise funds for several objectives, namely the advancement of education of less fortunate children in Malaysia, the implementation of sustainable programmes for underprivileged communities, involvement in disaster relief efforts and to support the beneficiaries under the Setia Caring School Programme.

A number of activities were held on the charity night by students of the Setia Caring School Programme and stand-up comedians such as Kuah Jenhan, Dr Jason Leong and Phoon Chi Ho. The top 10 donors were also presented with handmade souvenirs by the students and Team Setia volunteers as tokens of appreciation.

The event was also attended by S P Setia’s acting president and CEO Datuk Khor Chap Jen, acting deputy president and COO Datuk Wong Tuck Wai, and S P Setia board of trustees member Datuk Dr Nik Norzrul Thani Nik Hassan Thani.

“We believe that the foundation’s amazing work all these years has laid a solid groundwork for us to lift our efforts beyond merely ensuring quality education to pursue a much larger goal. Moving forward, we are enthusiastic about taking the program to the next level, to provide an all-encompassing education to our children – an education experience which not only builds students intellectually, but builds future leaders who are morally upright,” said Wan Zahid.

The S P Setia Foundation was founded in 2000 as the charity branch of S P Setia, focusing on education and national unity, with aims to promote the idea of a caring society among students, teachers and parents of underperforming schools alongside instilling good virtues and strong moral values in them.

The foundation is currently working with students to build hibiscus gardens for the three adopted schools under the Setia Caring School Programme – SJK (C) Lee Min, SK Meru Jalan Tap and SJK (T) Ladang Vallambrosa. It is also co-organising a joint year-six graduation ceremony with the three schools, which will include different cultural performances by the students.
