Sixteen 10th MP projects using green technology

BANTING: Green technology is being used to construct 11 buildings and five roads under the 10th Malaysia Plan, Works Minister Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor said on May 19.

The projects are now in various stages of completion, he told reporters after opening a factory of the German company NAUE Asia Sdn Bhd in Teluk Panglima Garang near here.

The factory, which is the company's first outside Germany, produces geosynthetic clay liners, which are used to protect soil in projects such as road construction, terrain maintenance and landfilling.

Shaziman said the buildings being erected using green technology are a school, hospital, court, training institute and polytechnic. The roads being completed are in Pahang, Kelantan and Negeri Sembilan.

Shaziman said the ministry was keeping an open mind on new technologies in engineering, especially in the construction sector.
Earliar, in his speech, Shaziman said that use of the latest technology, including green technology, could increase infrastructure quality, cut costs and reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

Referring to the German venture, Shaziman said that he hoped it would help to foster German-Malaysian collaboration in the construction industry.-- Bernama
