KUALA LUMPUR: Sunway City Bhd (SunCity) has received the ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Management System certification for the Development of Residential, Commercial and Industrial Properties issued by Sirim QAS International Sdn Bhd for sustainable business practises.
The ISO 14001 is a recognised framework for environmental management systems and has been adopted in various countries.
The main objective of this standard is to provide a framework for an organisation's environmental policy, plans and actions.
In a statement on Thursday, Mar 3, SunCity said the certification would allow the group to effectively monitor its business operations and understand their impact on the environment, while providing a strong assurance to employees that they are working for an environmentally responsible organisation.
"It also provides assurance to external stakeholders, such as customers and regulatory authorities, that SunCity is fully committed in promoting sustainable development.
"Sirim QAS International is registered with IQ NET (The International Certification Network), which will further enhance recognition and acceptance of SunCity's certification around the world," said Ho Hon Sang, SunCity's managing director of property development, Malaysia.
"As we focus on designing environmentally- friendly buildings, setting the standard for a better environment management process is a natural progression for the group to achieve a more efficient and sustainable business practice. It will help the group monitor the impact of its activities, products and services on the environment," he said.
Among its sustainable developments is Sunway SPK 3 Harmoni residential project that has received the coveted Gold Green Mark certification from Singapore's Building and Construction Authority.
The group had in 1997 received the ISO 9001 certification for quality management systems.
