KUALA LUMPUR (July 3): Eastern & Oriental Bhd (E&O) has been selected by the Synod of the Diocese of West Malaysia (the Synod) — through an international tender process conducted by property consultants DTZ Nawawi Tie Leung — to operate one tower of serviced residences sited within the St Mary Residences development in the central business district of Kuala Lumpur.

The serviced residences — to be run as the E&O Residences Kuala Lumpur — occupy one of the three towers at the 4.1-acre St Mary Residences in Jalan Tengah. E&O and the Lion Group, the joint-venture partners for the development of St Mary Residences had returned this tower to the landowners, the Synod, as consideration for the land.

"We believe E&O with its extensive experience and impressive pedigree in hospitality management is a sound choice to run the serviced residences," said the Rt Rev Datuk Ng Moon Hing, Bishop of West Malaysia in a statement on Tuesday.

E&O deputy managing director Eric Chan said, "This is an excellent opportunity to extend our expertise in hospitality management, and at the same time establish a wider presence for the E&O brand."

"From a group perspective, the extension into serviced residence management represents yet another vital pillar in the cachet of lifestyle elements that collectively make E&O a true luxury lifestyle developer," he added.

With property development as its core business, E&O is supported by a strong complement of lifestyle elements which include F&B, hotels, retail, marina services and performing arts.

Targeting the global business or leisure traveller on an extended stay in Kuala Lumpur, the E&O Residences will be ready in time for an opening within the next nine months.

The site is is in a quiet elevated plot and is easily accessible via Jalan Raja Chulan, Jalan Sultan Ismail and Jalan P Ramlee, while the monorail and LRT services can be accessed at the Raja Chulan station nearby.
