Dr Mahathir has made it clear that Malaysia is supportive of BRI as this cooperation gives equal treatment to all participating countries, regardless of the size of the country’s economy and population.

The ECRL will now be 40km shorter and will pass through Jelebu, Negeri Sembilan, instead of Gombak in the Klang Valley, to Port Klang.

“We want to reveal the contract to the public. And we have already revealed some of the information… But there is sensitive information in the contract."

Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad told reporters at a press briefing that no mention of the HSR project was made by Chinese President Xi Jinping during his five-day visit here that ends today for China's Second Belt and Road Forum.

However, the prime minister has highlighted that it is the international community that must assume responsibility for keeping the seas clear and unpolluted if the Straits of Malacca is designated as international waters.

Speaking to Xi, Mahathir expressed his gratitude to the Chinese leader for making time to strengthen diplomatic ties between Malaysia and China.

The prime minister was invited by China's president Xi Jinping to attend the second Belt & Road Forum that starts on Friday.

"For the opposition, you can criticise anything, but the government has to do things. And immediately when you do something, there will be somebody who will not be happy."

"We believe that the interest in the grand prix is still very big, and we want to bring the race back here."

The bridge comprises a passage for vehicles, walkways for pedestrials, and a closed passage for utility installations on the ground floor.
