Shahrol: MoF pressured into giving TIA govt guarantee to meet Jho Low's 'aggressive' deadline

KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 24): The Ministry of Finance (MoF) was said to have been pressured into issuing the government guarantee for the RM5 billion Islamic medium term notes (IMTN), in order to meet a tight one-month deadline set by fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho, according to the testimony by Datuk Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi, the ninth prosecution witness in the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB)-Tanore trial, at the High Court yesterday.

KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 23): Former Terengganu Investment Authority (TIA) and later its federalised incarnation 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Shahrol Azral Ibrahim Halmi described former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak as being so close with fugitive businessman Low Taek Jho — better known as Jho Low — that he gave the Penang-born financier the mandate to plan and arrange the operations of the two entities.
