Malaysia falls from No 35 to 80 in World Happiness Report

KUALA LUMPUR (March 21): According to the World Happiness Report 2019, Malaysia was a much happier country last year.

The report stated that this year, we are the 80th happiest nation (score of 5.339) while we were at the No 35 spot last year.

Within Asean, the nations happier than us are Singapore (placed at 34th with 6.262 points), Thailand (52nd with 6.008 points) and the Philippines (69th with 5.631 points).

The report is described as “a landmark survey of the state of global happiness that ranks 156 countries by how happy their citizens perceive themselves to be”.

“This year’s World Happiness Report focuses on happiness and the community: how happiness has evolved over the past dozen years, with a focus on the technologies, social norms, conflicts and government policies that have driven those changes,” it said.

The 2019 instalment is the 7th World Happiness Report.

The unhappiest countries in the report are 150 Malawi (3.410), 151 Yemen (3.380), 152 Rwanda (3.334), 153 Tanzania (3.231), 154 Afghanistan (3.203), 155 Central African Republic (3.083) and 156 South Sudan (2.853)
