KUALA LUMPUR: The Colour of the Year 2010 is Airy Marina Blue, according to AkzoNobel, the world’s largest paint and coating company and supplier of leading brands like Dulux. It described the colour as an optimistic hue that symbolises infinite horizons, new beginnings, renewed energy and a positive dynamic.

The colour was unveiled on Nov 23 at the launch of Colour Futures 2010, which showcased colour trends for the coming year.

Colour Futures 2010 incorporates five lifestyle themes: Silent Space, Fluid Fantasy, Basic Beliefs, Free Spirit and Sweet Memory, all featuring unique colour palettes for a wide cross section of society.

AkzoNobel, which acquired the British-based Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) in January 2008, has made ICI Paints (Malaysia) part of its wider AkzoNobel family.
"As the world's largest global paints and coating company, we take great pride in adding colour to people's lives. Colour is a wonderful medium to express oneself and create a personal style," shared Jeremy Rowe, managing director of AkzoNobel decorative paints, South East Asia & Pacific at the launch.

With regards to the merger, C W Goh, managing director, ICI Paints (Malaysia), who was also at the launch, said: "As 2009 draws to a close, like many who have endured a challenging economic landscape, we celebrate it with a sense of renewed optimism and excitement as we embark on our new journey.”

The Colour Futures team drew on a variety of sources to come up with Colour Futures 2010 such as research groups, colour marketing and trade & retail exhibitions.
