SHAH ALAM: The Selangor MCA has described the home ownership scheme, introduced by the Selangor government under the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) to enable the people in the state to own homes with a flexible premium payment, as a political ploy.

Selangor MCA information chief Datuk Yap Pian Hon claimed that the state government was trying to pull wool over the people's eyes by saying that they could own property by merely paying RM1,000 through the scheme, whereas they had to pay a high premium to renew their land lease.

"According to our investigation, the residents in Kampung Baru Sungai Chua, Kajang, staying on a plot measuring 4,239 sq ft (393.8 sq metres) are charged RM1,000 merely to acquire the land title but they are not told about the land premium of RM30,978 to renew their lease for 60 years.

"This is too extreme because under the previous Barisan Nasional administration, the residents were only charged 50 sen per sq ft for a piece of land measuring more than 4,000 sq ft (371.6 sq metres), and this meant that they merely had to pay RM2,000 to renew their lease for 60 years.

"This calculation formula has been cancelled in the Selangor Director of Land and Mines Circular issued for the guidelines on the new scheme," he told reporters at his office, here on Tuesday, Aug 9.

Yap, who is the Selangor Barisan Nasional information head, also expressed regret over several conditions imposed by the state government recently on the election of the state chairman of the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK). — Bernama
