KUALA LUMPUR: Mass Rapid Transit Corp Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) has awarded two work packages for a fire detection and protection system for the Klang Valley MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang (SBK) line, worth RM54.25 million.

In a statement yesterday, MRT Corp said the awards were given by the One-Stop Procurement Committee (OSPC) at a meeting chaired by Treasury secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah.

MRT Corp said the contract — for the supply, procurement, installation, testing and commissioning of fire detection and protection systems for elevated stations in Packages V1 and V2, and the Sungai Buloh depot to PJ Indah Sdn Bhd — was worth RM31.97 million.

“The contract for the supply, procurement, installation, testing and commissioning of fire detection and protection system for elevated stations in Packages V7 and V8, and the Kajang depot was awarded to Mecomb Malaysia Sdn Bhd is worth RM22.28 million,” the company said.

MRT Corp CEO Datuk Azhar Abdul Hamid said there are 19 packages yet to be awarded from a total of 86.

“In a period of 18 months, we completed awarding the main civil works and all system works packages.

“Now, we are awarding the remaining work packages, with contracts for multi-storey car parks, LED lighting, furniture, signage and escalators for underground stations.

Azhar also said with the progress now at 14% and accelerating, more contracts will be awarded in the coming months. — Bernama
