IPOH (Feb 17): Residents from Kampung Pasir Putih, Ipoh, want Ipoh City Council to act quickly to clear piles of rubbish left along a shortcut to their village.
Pasir Pinji assemblyman Howard Lee said there had been numerous complaints about the rubbish strewn across the road between Masjid Zainal Abidin and the Kuan Woh Yuen settlement area.
“Residents say they fear for their health because the area has turned into a mosquito breeding ground. There is also open burning on a daily basis, causing smoke that smells like burning rubber.
“The road is also frequently used as the main route to access Pasir Pinji, used by school children and elderly people,” he said.
One of the residents, Salmah Uda Mat Esa, 66, said she felt the mosquito population in the area was getting out of control.
“All of us are sad and disappointed that we are left on our own to deal with this situation,” she said.
Lee said he had forwarded the complaint to the council and a petition should follow to prevent the complaint being ignored by the local authorities.
A council spokesman said the complaint was being looked into. -- The Malaysian Insider
