KELANA JAYA: The Malaysian Institute of Architects (PAM) announced that submissions for its PAM-Tan Sri Chan Sau Lai Architectural Award 2015 are now open.

“This award recognises the great ideas of this generation and how they define architecture,” said PAM president 2014-2015 Chan Seong Aun at a press conference last Friday.

The award recognises outstanding achievements by design architectural students, and aims to introduce them to the profession.

“After spending seven years learning about architecture locally or abroad, most students would want to contribute to the local scene, so we believe this award will be good for their portfolios.”

There will be two judging stages: the first will shortlist 10 projects, while the second consists of personal or video conference interviews with the judges in May.

The award presentation will be in September.

The judges are Seong Aun, award founder Sau Lai, award co-founder Boon Che Wee, PAM education committee member Mohd Zulhemlee An, Malaysian Institute of Interior Designers president Chris Yap Seng Chye, Institute of Landscape Architects Malaysia president Prof Dr Osman Mohd Tahir and PAM honorary treasurer Amzar Ahmad.

The winner will receive RM25,000 and a certificate. Four commendation prizes of RM5,000 and a certificate will also be handed out, and five finalists will each receive RM1,000 and a certificate.
