IPOH: Sungai Rapat state constituency has emerged the first area in the state to be free of squatters, a senior state executive councillor, Datuk Hamidah Osman, said.

This follows the state government's decision to approve a 7.2 hectare area to be turned into a village for 46 squatter families from Kampung Kamariah and Kampung Pasir Tambahan.

"Although we have set the target of achieving zero-squatter by the end of next year, we managed to achieved it much earlier," she told reporters here on Tuesday, Oct 11.

She attributed the success to the efficiency of government staff and commitment shown by the villagers. — Bernama
