Some 1,000 acres (404.69ha) of land on the two isles to the south of Penang island that will be reclaimed as part of the state government’s land swap deal with SRS Consortium for the Penang Transport Master Plan (PTMP) have been earmarked for industrial development.

George Town Heritage Action’s Mark Lay said owners of property, including prewar constructions, in the heritage core and buffer zones were renovating and building without applying to the local council for a permit.

The Penang state government has officially appointed SRS Consortium led by Gamuda (60%) and two local firms, Ideal Property Development Sdn Bhd (20%) and Loh Phoy Yen Holdings Sdn Bhd (20%), to undertake the project delivery partner role in the Penang Transport Master Plan based on an alternative proposal submitted by the consortium.

Local government exco Chow Kon Yeow said the matter was being looked into by state secretary Datuk Seri Farizan Darus and state legal adviser Datuk Aliza Sulaiman.

SD Apartment II in Bandar Sri Damansara appears to have gained the most, with its average price up 36.7% y-o-y to RM361 psf in the 12 months to March 2015. Also in the list of top performing properties was the neighbouring SD Tiara Apartment.

Construction of a new Jalan Sultan Iskandar entrance to the park has started and is expected to be completed by Dec 20. Currently, visitors have to go around the back of shop houses on Jalan Bijeh Timah.

The 12 projects include the mass rapid transit (MRT) Line 1 and MRT Line 2, KL118 Tower, the West Coast Expressway (Taiping to Banting), Bukit Bintang City Centre, Asia Aerospace City, and the Sungai Besi-Ulu Kelang Elevated Expressway.

Land & General has another upcoming project nearby called Damansara Foresta. Units at this high-end condominium were selling for about RM800psf.

Among the buildings to be gazetted are the Penang Immigration Department building, the Standard Chartered Bank, state Islamic Affairs Department on Lebuh Pantai, Wisma Kastam (state Customs Department) on Lebuh Cina, the state legislative assembly building on Lebuh Light, state mosque and Suffolk House on Jalan Air Itam, and the Penang Free School on Jalan Masjid Negeri.
