KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 16): The Ministry of Transport is intensifying efforts to expedite the opening of the Light Rail Transit Line 3 (LRT3), connecting Shah Alam and its surrounding areas to help ease traffic congestion in the Klang Valley.
The construction group said the contract was awarded to its wholly owned subsidiary Trans Resources Corp Sdn Bhd.
Looking ahead, the group said it remains optimistic on opportunities in the rail and infrastructure sector.
Prasarana president and chief executive officer Amir Hamdan said the delay won’t cost the government extra because LRT3 is under a fixed-price contract.
An open tender for the second main civil works package (CMC2)—which covers the alignment from Macallum to Penang Sentral, including a bridge across the Penang Strait—will be launched soon.
Designated as Package CMC2, the tender is open to Malaysian contractors as well as foreign contractors, which must form a joint venture or consortium with Malaysian contractors holding at least 50% equity.
The project will commence on Oct 1 with practical completion targeted for April 30, 2027.
