Prasarana president and chief executive officer Amir Hamdan said the delay won’t cost the government extra because LRT3 is under a fixed-price contract.
“However, the implementation of the traffic management plan (TMP) during the festive seasons will be arranged in a way that does not disrupt the traffic flow or compromise the safety of road users, especially with the expected increase in vehicles,” said Penang State Infrastructure, Transport and Digital Committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari.
An open tender for the second main civil works package (CMC2)—which covers the alignment from Macallum to Penang Sentral, including a bridge across the Penang Strait—will be launched soon.
Designated as Package CMC2, the tender is open to Malaysian contractors as well as foreign contractors, which must form a joint venture or consortium with Malaysian contractors holding at least 50% equity.
The project will commence on Oct 1 with practical completion targeted for April 30, 2027.
