US reaches settlement to recover more than US$700m in assets allegedly traceable to corruption involving 1MDB

PETALING JAYA (Oct 31): The Department of Justice has reached a settlement of its civil forfeiture cases against assets acquired by Low Taek Jho, aka Jho Low, and his family using funds allegedly misappropriated from 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), Malaysia’s investment development fund, and laundered through financial institutions in several jurisdictions, including the United States, Switzerland, Singapore and Luxembourg.

‘Wolf of Wall Street’ production company pays US$60mil 1MDB settlement

PETALING JAYA (September 25): Production company Red Granite Pictures has paid off the balance of its US$60 million (RM234 million) settlement with the US government Red Granite had been accused of using more than $100 million embezzled from 1MDB, The American magazine Variety reported that in an agreement reached with federal prosecutors in March, Red Granite had promised to make the forfeiture payment in three instalments.
