On Wednesday, the AGC said in a statement that it will represent the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur Land Registrar in applying for a stay of the court decision, and to file an appeal at the Court of Appeal.
"The AGC, representing the Federal Territory Land Registrar, will file the appeal in the Court of Appeal and apply for a stay of execution of the High Court's decision," the AGC said in a statement on Wednesday night.
High Court judge Datuk Ahmad Shahrir Mohd Salleh allowed Semantan Estate’s application, to give effect to the order the company had obtained since 2009 — in one of the longest-standing civil land disputes since Merdeka — back to the liquidator after the court dismissed the government’s application for an adjournment of Tuesday’s hearing pending a proposed settlement by the government on the issue.
The appellate court had initially fixed last Oct 24 for the hearing of Semantan Estate’s appeal, but senior federal counsel Shamsul Bolhassan sought an adjournment following a negotiated settlement taking place.
