Kong Woon Jun emerges as new Guocoland managing director

KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 23): Guocoland (Malaysia) Bhd, the property investment arm of Hong Leong Group, has appointed Datuk Kong Woon Jun, 52, as its managing director (MD) effective Jan 4, 2016, following the resignation of Tan Lee Koon, 41, who will assume another position in the Hong Leong group.

Prior to his appointment, Kong was formerly the group MD of Tropicana Corp Bhd.

He has more than 26 years of experience in the property development and construction industries, starting out his career as a senior architect in BEP Arkitek Sdn Bhd, in charge of high-end property developments in 1994.

From 2003 to 2008, he served as the director of project and product planning of Perdana Parkcity Sdn Bhd, playing a major role in the planning and designing of the Desa Parkcity township in Kuala Lumpur.

In 2008, Kong joined TA Global Bhd as director of planning and design, and was subsequently promoted to chief operating officer during the same year.

He was appointed as an executive director of Tropicana on March 1, 2011 and was promoted to deputy group MD on March 1, 2013. On March 14, 2014, he was promoted to the position of group MD. He was also a director of Tropicana Golf & Country Resort Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tropicana.
