KUALA LUMPUR (April 13): Cahya Mata Sarawak Bhd (CMS) is bidding for one of the 10 packages for the Sarawak side of the Pan Borneo Highway mega project, said its group chief financial officer Syed Hizam Alsagoff.

"Richard (CMS group managing director Datuk Richard Alexander John Curtis) is actively doing the negotiations and preparations for the tender," he said at the sidelines of Invest Malaysia 2016 today.

However, Syed Hizam declined to identify which package of the project the construction and building materials producer is bidding for.

He also refuted the idea of CMS indisputably benefiting from the Pan Borneo Highway, saying: "Like any other company, we have to tender for jobs. There is no such thing as freebies."

"We are thankful to the government for planning to build more infrastructure in Sarawak. In this case, all companies will benefit from the new upcoming infrastructure," Syed Hizam added.

He did not deny that Pan Borneo Highway will require cement and that CMS could be providing the material, although it will be "not much" to the overall development that will take place in Sarawak.

"The state is building more hydro dams, and depending on the specifications, there will be a need for cement. And as Samalaju township continues to develop, there will be more cement needed," he added.  theedgemarkets.com
