KUALA LUMPUR (April 27): Genting Group is rumoured to be in talks to sell its 5.6ha (14 acre) land at Biscayne Bay in Miami, Florida as the company is unable to build its planned luxury casino and resort there, Miami Herald reported.

Miami Herald, quoting an anonymous developer, reported Genting purchased the tract in 2011 for US$236 million (about RM924 million).

"Genting Group purchased the old Miami Herald building in 2011, with plans of building a casino resort. The company is interested in selling, according to a prospective buyer," Miami Herald reported.

Miami Herald reported the developer had confirmed Genting's interest in selling the land, after he was shown the property.

"The meeting came after another failed attempt to change Florida’s restrictive gambling laws during the state’s 2016 legislative session.

"Details such as the asking price and the exact timing of the visit were unavailable," Miami Herald reported.

However, a Genting spokeswoman denied that any meeting took place, according to Miami Herald.

Melissa Rider, marketing manager for Genting subsidiary Resorts World Bimini, wrote in an email to Miami Herald: “We have not shown the property to a potential buyer.” -- theedgemarkets.com
