KUALA LUMPUR: The upcoming Malaysian Structural Steel Association (MSSA) International Convention 2010 to be held on Nov 2 will focus on sustainability issues surrounding the steel industry in Malaysia and globally.

This year's convention, the sixth in the series, carries the theme "Steel Construction – A World Perspective", and will see the participation of about 250 industry players, academics and experts from the world’s steel industry.

The event is organised by the MSSA and is co-sponsored by Megasteel Sdn Bhd and PFC Engineering Sdn Bhd.

MSSA deputy president Stephen Tam said the convention will bring together top speakers with various areas of expertise in the industry as well as academic and research, to share their experience in managing sustainability for complex and mega projects.

“This is a very timely occasion in view of the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) promoted by the government and as we gear up towards the last phase of Vision 2020 in order to be a high income nation through sustainable practices.

“It will be an ideal platform for industry players and experts to exchange ideas, knowledge and experience on key issues affecting the industry at the national, regional and international levels. Participants will get to engage in intellectual discourses with invited speakers who represent the voice of the
industry from key economic areas of the world,” he added.

The Director-General of Public Works Datuk Sri Ir Dr Judin Abdul Karim will deliver a keynote address at the convention.
