SHAH ALAM: I-Bhd is embarking on its second phase of the City of Digital Lights project in its high-tech township of i-City in Shah Alam.

i-City Bhd Director Monica Ong, said the second phase of the project which will  incorporate light and sound experiences is aimed at drawing more tourists to the township which is already equipped with high speed fibre optic and broadband networks.

"At present we have an average 5,000 visitors on weekdays and 10,000 visitors over the weekend and we expect to double this number by the end of the year," she said at the launching of a competition to promote the project here on Tuesday May 25.

The competition, "i-City: It's Always On" photography and videography challenge is organised with co-sponsors Tourism Malaysia, Canon Marketing (M) Sdn Bhd and MasterCard Worldwide.

The competition was launched by Hong Kong movie star, Simon Yam who is also the ambassador for Canon camera.

Ong said the second phase was expected to be compeleted by the middle of this year and visitors would be able to watch dancing light shows dubbed as the "Hibiscus in the Sky".

Currently, visitors to the first phase of City of Digital Lights, are able to walk around the park in i-City and walk through rows of trees, lanterns and figurines such as goose, peacocks, deers and flamingos lit by colourful
energy saving lights.

She said the first phase and second phase of the City of Digital Lights would cost I-Bhd RM8 million in terms of investment.- Bernama

Meanwhile, the competition involves taking the best shot of i-City. There would be also two specialised categories, one for the media and another for videographers. Up to RM80,000 worth of cash and prizes await winners including RM6,000 cash and a Canon EOS 550D digital camera for the grand prize winner.
First prize winner in the videography category stands to win RM5,000 cash and a Canon LEGRIA HF R16 camcoder.

The photography and videography contest starts from June 1 this year till Sept 3, 2010. Entry forms could be obtained from all Canon Concept Stores nationwide or downloaded from i-City's and Canon website respectively.

During this competition period, MasterCard worldwide would be promoting the competition through all its cardholders. MasterCard would be also supporting i-City and Canon efforts to promote Canon@i-City through its mega sales carnival in Singapore, Thailand and Brunei.

i-City is a RM2 billion integrated high-tech township on a 29-hectare site in Section 7 developed by I-Bhd. Todate 156 units of its office units have been opened for occupancy and 80 per cent of them have been sold to Al-Rajhi Banking Group.--Bernama
