China trial property tax to cover existing homes

BEIJING: A property tax to be launched on a trial basis in the southwestern Chinese city of Chongqing will cover new and existing homes, city mayor Huang Qifan was quoted as saying on Wednesday, Jan 12 by state television.

ALOR SETAR: It has become almost unbearable for more than 4,000 residents of the Simpang Kuala Flats near here who have been plagued by improper disposal of refuse for over a year.

Simpang Kuala Flats Federal Village Development and Security Committee chairman Zakri Hassan said the problem cropped up after E-Idaman took over the contract of refuse disposal at the end of 2009.

Malaysia's special envoy for infrastructure to India and South Asia Datuk Seri S Samy Vellu said the state government was keen on Putrajaya's design, which he had proposed to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
