MELAKA (Jan 26): The Melaka government and China's Guangdong province will hold wide-ranging talks on investments and project collaboration during the state's official visit to the province in March. 

Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron the talks would mainly focus on the introduction of the Guangdong-Melaka flights, the construction of a deep-sea and a maritime industrial park, and the setting up of a free-trade zone. 

"The talks would centre on who will carry them out, when they will get off the ground and the extent of involvement of Melaka and Guangdong.

"We also propose to open a Melaka government office in Guangdong, for which the location had been identified - the China World Trade Centre," he told reporters following the Melaka government monthly assembly at Seri Negeri, Ayer Keroh here today. 

The Melaka Cultural Carnival and the Melaka Cultural Information Centre will also be launched in Guangdong during the visit. 

Idris said Syarikat Air Melaka Bhd (SAMB) and the Melaka State Development Corporation would also seek investment opportunities during the visit. 

"SAMB is keen to get an investment in utilities for the proposed port project, while the state development corporation on the port development in terms of operations, technical and maintenance," he said, adding that industry players joining the visit would also look for investment opportunities
