KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 21) -- A moderate earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale hit southern Sumatra, Indonesia at 4.47 am today, said the Malaysian Meteorological Department.

The quake's epicentre was 141 km northwest of Siberut, Indonesia and 458 km southwest of Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan.

It did not pose any tsunami threat, the department said in a statement. -- BERNAMA
