GEORGE TOWN (Nov 19): The state government will co-operate with the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) to complete the RM27 billion Penang Transport Master Plan (PTMP), according to Local Government, Traffic Management and Flood Mitigation Committee chairman Chow Kon Yeow.

He said SPAD would provide technical advice and procedures for approval of projects such as the LRT and tram services.

“The state government will complete the master plan before seeking the approval of SPAD and the Ministry of Transport,” he said in reply to Yap Soo Huey (DAP-Pulau Tikus), who wanted to know what Putrajaya thought of the PTMP and the state government’s application to provide tram services, at the assembly sitting in George Town yesterday.

Chow said, during a discussion on September 17, SPAD had responded positively to the PTMP.

He said the state government had appointed SRS Konsortium as partner and they had contacted federal agencies to obtain the required licences.

The PTMP projects include a 6.5km tunnel, three expressways and a cable car project.

Replying to a question from Shariful Azhar Othman (BN-Bertam), he said the state government did not receive an application to develop Bukit Gambir.

“At present, erosion control of slopes via hydro-seeding, erosion control mats and close turfing are being carried out by General Accomplishment Sdn Bhd,” he said. -- The Malaysian Insider
