The PH presidential council, in a statement issued after an emergency meeting tonight, said the powers to appoint a prime minister lies with the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong as stipulated by the Federal Constitution.

The council meeting also rejected Mahathir's resignation as Bersatu chairman.

The leaders included former PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang together with Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and former vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, as well as PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Anwar also said he knew of the premier’s intention to resign during their meeting this morning, and that he had in fact tried to persuade Mahathir not to proceed with his decision.

According to Rosmah’s lawyer Mohamed Reza Rahim, there have not been any charges against Najib and Rosmah.
