美国哲学家和小说家George Santayana曾说过：“想要知道你的未来，你就必须先了解你的过去。” 而对于大马的视觉艺术家Eddie Putera Noordin来说，把过去的美丽保留给下一代，是一件很重要的事。 为了达到这个目标，他通过精巧的手艺，将以前的街景复制在立体微缩模型中。 “我喜欢绘画、制作雕像、画素描和拍照。3年前我突发发现，我喜欢的艺术创作都是平面化的东西。那时就想，为何不尝试创作立体艺术呢？” “我同时也热衷于收集汽车，所以我就想，如果把这些车放在一间房子或车库前，看起来会怎样呢？然后我开始这样做了。” 已经51岁的Eddie说，对于生在50年后的人们而言，他们可能已经无法回想传统建筑、战后店屋和房子，甚至是一个普通木窗的模样了。因此，他才如此热衷将这些过去的回忆和建筑，透过艺术保留给下一代。 “槟城是一个给了我很多灵感和启发的地方。我通常会开车过去、拍照、仔细研究和描绘当地建筑物。我还会到处逛逛，问问当地居民建筑物的建材用料是什么。然后自己用混了沙子的油灰，来制作模型。” 仔细观赏Eddie制作的模型，就会发现当中隐藏的众多细节，包括一些咖啡店招牌上的中文字。这引起了笔者的兴趣，并询问他是否懂得中文。 他笑说：“没有啦，我只是复制了那些我在招牌上看到的中文字，然后再把它们贴在我的作品上。我想要我的作品尽可能地跟真实的建筑物一样。” 回忆起成为一名艺术家的过程，Eddie说自己原本是一名建筑系毕业生，但并不想从事一份朝九晚五的办公楼工作，所以在毕业后，他应征成为一名销售员，在Imbi Plaza售卖电脑。 不过，始终不变是的他对素描和摄影的喜爱。 “当时我告诉自己，如果我会因此变穷，那么就认命吧。我真的很讨厌在一个封闭的空间和时间被捆绑的模式下工作。” “那时候，我去任何地方都带着一本素描本，连我当销售员的时候也是一样。如果我看到一个华美富丽的窗口或是一个特别的建筑，我就会坐在路边，慢慢把它描绘出来。” 对于艺术对人们的重要性，Eddie就表示：“在生理层面上，我们需要进食以维生。但我们的心灵呢？它也需要‘食物’，而艺术就是你心理的粮食。”   英文版已刊登于2018年8月24日的EdgeProp.
